A mushing season does not start when the snowflakes arrive. It begins at the end of summer, in early September, as soon as temperatures drop, for the dogs’ well-being.
But what equipment do you need?
- a quad bike, to start out on dirt while waiting for snow
- a gangline with a shock absorber, a tugline and a neckline
- a stake-out line to secure the dogs before hitching up
- a sled, a snow hook, a bag on the sled

Equipment for the dog:
- a made-to-measure harness, or one suited to its build, with reflective strips
- a coat for the end of the session or for bivouacs
- booties
Equipment for the musher:
- a helmet
- head torches (sled and helmet)
- warm clothing
- a tether line
- a harness belt
